Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in 1967. 1976 Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years following that as an general reporter. From 1981 onwards she began covering the White House. In 1988, she became chief congressional reporter. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell has been a panelist and host of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for journalism excellence, including her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Her reporting included a number of significant stories, including the Iran-Contra controversy, tax and budget reforms in addition to the arms control. She traveled extensively with President Reagan during summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
